Yeasayer are back! The band is set to release Fragrant World on 20 August 2012 on Mute, the follow up to 2010’s Odd Blood.

Last week, the band sent 200 random fans physical CD of the first track ‘Henrietta’ and encouraged them to share it. Yeasayer wanted the fans to experience the music first and told them so in an accompanying letter. The track went up a few days later and was picked up across the world.

Listen to new track Henrietta HERE

Fragrant World, produced by Yeasayer, is seething with sonics that construct eleven outstanding tracks that act together and also in a solo existence.

Yeasayer have produced something that sounds foreign at first, but after a few studies is filled with the hooks the band is known for. This is not a dish of pop rocks like Odd Blood, instead Fragrant World is something much weirder and darker.

Yeasayer has once again constructed something fascinating that expands with each play.

The record, which is released through Mute on May 22nd is the follow-up to 2009’s critically acclaimed album Broken. Recorded at various locations and mastered at Abbey Road, the record will be available on CD, LP and as a download.

10. I Can’t Say

11. Take

12. Tonight

Venturing out from the studio to the road, Soulsavers were invited to support Depeche Mode on the European leg of the band’s vast 2010 Tour of the Universe. Here, the seeds of The Light The Dead See were sewn. With Gahan penning lyrics for the music and recording his own vocals in New York, then Machin building up the results into fully-formed and arranged epics, the international project was a case of “chemistry working”. The album was mastered at Abbey Road earlier this year.

“There was no real script,” says the Rich Machin of the extraordinary fourth album The Light The Dead See, a set of songs of majesty and momentum. “It just rolled and rolled; it was effortless.” Joining forces with Dave Gahan it immediately became clear that this was going to be something very special. “We realized we were coming from the same place in so many ways,” adds Machin. “He’s really laid himself bare on this record, his contribution is astonishing.” Says Gahan, “Everything about it was relatively unplanned, surprising: a magical thing. We were a perfect match and I’m very, very excited about this record.”

Soulsavers – the music and production team of Rich Machin and Ian Glover – have been a growing force since 2003’s debut Tough Guys Don’t Dance. 2007’s It’s Not How Far You Fall, It’s The Way You Land brought their dark flair to a wider audience. The inimitable Mark Lanegan served as primary singer, though there were also vocal contributions from Will Oldham and Jimi Goodwin. In 2009, third album Broken confirmed that Soulsavers were moving away from early electronica to earthier guitars, use of space and what Machin described as “a soulful twist.” Lanegan again led the vocals on stand-outs such as ‘You Will Miss Me When I Burn’ and ‘All The Way Down’, with other guest vocalists including Oldham again, Jason Pierce, Richard Hawley, Mike Patton and Gibby Haynes. Clearly, there was no shortage of acclaimed singers ready to lend their lungs to Soulsavers’ stirring, seductive, soothing or startling creations.

M83 is excited to announce eight new fall tour dates in the US & Canada! The new dates, on fan pre-sale May 4th through ilovem83.com, include six cities the band has not yet played while touring in support of the critically adored and dynamic double record Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming, featuring the hit single “Midnight City”. Widely celebrated for brilliantly bringing the sax solo back, M83’s “Midnight City” sits at #5 on the US Commercial Alternative Radio charts, with the video approaching 10 million views on YouTube.

M83’s place among the biggest and brightest stars in music was confirmed after recent high profile and raved about Coachella performances. A gushing Rolling Stone live review called the opening night show of the spring North American Tour “goosebump-triggering”. Anthony Gonzalez and band are currently on tour and are set to continue the celebration on America’s largest stages with the announcement of M83 performing at Lollapalooza, August 3rd in Chicago. For a full list of upcoming shows, including the newly announced Hammerstein Ballroom show in NYC on October 2nd, visit ilovem83.com.

The Reunion EP is set for release on May 29th. Reunion is the second single off of the massive sixth M83 album Hurry Up We’re Dreaming, which continues to display M83’s aptitude at writing catchy cosmic-pop soundtracks filled with fantasy and imagination. The single will be released with a stunning and diverse remix package of six exclusive re-works of the track, including remixes by Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., Mylo, Sei A, The Naked And Famous, Polly Scattergood, and White Sea.

Produced by Justin Meldal-Johnsen (Beck, NIN, The Mars Volta, Goldfrapp), mixed by Tony Hoffer (Air, The Kooks), and including contributions from Brad Laner (from 90’s band Medicine), Saturdays=Youth vocalist Morgan Kibby, and guest vocalist Zola Jesus, Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming is a double-album journey that takes us to the horizon and introduces us to new landscapes. About awakening, craving, and conquering, Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming pushes into new vocal territory for M83. Here we see Gonzalez test out different ways of singing, ranging from a spectral breathy whisper to a howling scream. “I think it is a reflection of my 30 years of being a human being. It’s a compilation of all my previous music together. It’s a retrospective of myself”, says Gonzalez.

Featuring Malcolm Mooney on vocals, Irmin Schmidt recalls: “[This was a] spontaneous live composition from the time in Schloss Nörvenich. The owner of the castle – who let us use the studio for free – was an art collector and sometimes we would play for his guests at the opening nights of exhibitions. Malcolm loved to confuse the people by using an actual event – somebody was called Doris – repeat a few words relating to that event over and over again, like a mantra, obsessively until it would actually become scary.”

The Lost Tapes, out on 18 June 2012, was curated by Irmin Schmidt and Daniel Miller, compiled by Irmin Schmidt and Jono Podmore, and edited by Jono Podmore.

AVAILABLE ON CD, VINYL & LTD EDITION WAX DIPPED VINYL

LIVE DATES INCLUDING FIELD DAY: 2 JUNE – XOYO, LONDON: 12 JUNE – RUBY LOUNGE, MANCHESTER: 15 JUNE

NME Track Of The Week – “… a very different kind of comeback… it beguiles, subtly shifting in mood and texture… Their cabin fever leads to our delirious dream, as the track flows smoothly to a climax of odd beauty”

Liars – Angus Andrew, Aaron Hemphill and Julian Gross – release the video for the first single from their eagerly awaited new album, WIXIW, No. 1 Against The Rush.

The eerie video, which sees each member of the band abducted by a shadowy figure in downtown LA, was made by Todd Cole, the director and photographer best known for his films for Rodarte.

No. 1 Against The Rush is released on 12” and digital download on 28 May, and precedes the 11-track album, WIXIW (pronounced “wish you”), out 4 June 2012.

The single will feature remixes of the title track from Vince Clarke (Erasure / VCMG / Yazoo) and Matmos plus exclusive b-side, We’ll Never Learn.

WIXIW is Liars’ sixth studio album and the follow up to 2010’s critically lauded Sisterworld (The Quietus’ Album of the Year, #9 in the NME’s Albums of the Year who said of the album “…this incredible album is your passport to a better place.”).

The album, with artwork designed by John Weise, will be available on CD, deluxe vinyl (with CD) and limited edition vinyl with silk-screened embossed covers hand dipped in black wax by the band. Pre-order is available from http://liars.sandbag.uk.com where you can see images of the limited edition run being produced.

Aaron Hemphill here discusses the video, “Beginning with Patrick Daughters’ video for Plaster Casts Of Everything, we’ve really enjoyed giving directors complete freedom in executing a visual interpretation of a Liars song entirely based on their own reaction to the song, free from any factual references or creative input from us. We were really won over by Todd Cole’s enthusiasm for No. 1 Against The Rush, as well as his very musical and rhythmic pacing in his treatment. Despite being wrapped head to toe in plastic, being dragged through broken glass, and being strangled to the ground, we had the easiest job to do on the set and we eagerly look forward to any new forms of punishment that can be inflicted upon us in making the next video.”

The title, WIXIW, is explained by Angus Andrew, “’wish you’ is a familiar and universal sentiment of longing and hope, but when misspelt becomes uniquely shrouded and difficult to interpret, which in many ways is representative of our music and the songs we wrote for this album”.

Recorded in LA, self-produced by the band with additional production from Daniel Miller and mixed by Tom Biller, the album, is hard to shake, tough to pin down, and impossible to get out of one’s head even after an initial listen. Simultaneously the most accessible and most challenging release from these iconoclasts, it is both a summation of Liars’ work up to now, and a complete break from anything you’d ever heard the band do previously.

“If we aren’t confusing people, it’s not us,” Andrew laughs. “If we aren’t confusing ourselves with what we do, then we’ve failed.”

Liars will return to Europe for live dates including Field Day – 2 June, and a series of intimate shows, including London’s XOYO – 12 June and Manchester’s Ruby Lounge – 15 June (full list below).
