Land Observations (aka the musician and artist, James Brooks) has unveiled a new video for Walking The Warm Colonnades, taken from his latest album, The Grand Tour.

Walking The Warm Colonnades, directed by the artist Phil Coy, continues the themes of The Grand Tour with a journey through vintage tourist photographic slides. The video is premiering on Nowness here:

In addition, Brooks has a headline show coming up: 15 October at The Proud Archivist gallery on Regent’s Canal, Haggerston, with support from Sea Majesty, tickets are available from http://bit.ly/1m85fw1

The Grand Tour – out now – is the follow up to 2012’s critically acclaimed debut album, Roman Roads IV-XI, where that was concerned with the roads of communication and conquest that stretched across the former Roman Empire and Republic, the new album creates an imaginary travelogue through Western, Central and Southern Europe with reference to the routes and locations of the historic Grand Tour, a rite of passage voyage which found popularity in the 18th century – and commenced the idea of ‘tourism’ as we have come to know it.

On The Grand Tour, the typography and history of each landscape inspires the tempo, tone & approach of the instrumentals. Here on – Walking The Warm Colonnades, the listener is taken for a walk through the architectural rhythms and ambient piazzas of classical/ renaissance Venice, Florence and Rome.

For the artwork James Brooks has made a series of postcard drawings which utilise various found tourist and holiday postcards. Directly responding to each postcard’s unique design layout, he has produced a series of abstract, geometric drawings of only their specific surface areas and design skeleton.

Recently Brooks guested on Simon Fisher Turner’s Ivor Novello Award winning score for the BFI restoration of The Epic Of Everest (dir. Captain John Noel, 1924) and has performed the score live at the London Film Festival world premiere, Trento Film Festival in Italy and the Shanghai International Film Festival.
