Cold Specks

– Adds New York Show & Newport Folk Festival

COLD SPECKS

NYC Headline show at Pianos – 5/29

Newport Folk Festival Performance – 7/28

Nominated For Juno Award
Best Breakthrough Artist of the Year

TOUR SUPPORTING JIM JAMES BEGINS IN TWO WEEKS

coldspecksautumndewilde Cold Specks, just named as one of Billboard’s “Five Canadian Acts to Watch”, recently announced tour dates supporting My Morning Jacket’s Jim James on his Spring North American Tour.  The 18 –show tour is now just over two weeks away, kicking off on April 17th in Louisville, KY– see the full list of dates are below.

For those in NYC, Cold Specks has just added a headline show at Pianos on April 29th (11pm) directly following her show with Jim James at Webster Hall earlier in the night. Be sure to come catch her at what will be the most intimate venue of her 2013 tour schedule!

This summer, Cold Specks will be performing at the venerable Newport Folk Festival on Sunday July 28th, joining some of her finest contemporaries, including Jim James. Tickets for the Sunday shows have sold out.

Cold Specks’ star is rising in her home country of Canada as well where she has received a nomination for Juno’s Breakthrough Artist of the Year-winners will be announced April 21st .  Specks recently struck award-gold her win of the Female Artist of the Year Award at the 13th Annual Canadian Indie Music Awards, inching out pop princess Carly Rae Jepsen among others! We are so proud of all her hard work!

“With a robust, bluesy voice that will stop listeners dead in their tracks…”
-Billboard (Five Canadian Acts To Watch)

“When she begins singing, you understand the fuss.”

-Pitchfork

“One of the Ten Best New Voices In Music”

-PASTE

“She belts out lyrics while maintaining restraint…her voice rings throughout the Bowery, washing over the crowd as it stands silent, captivated.”

PASTE (Live Show Review From Bowery Ballroom Performance)

Describing her sound as ‘Doom Soul’, Cold Specks’ music is steeped in the musical traditions of the Deep South. Citing Lomax Field Recordings and James Carr as influences along with Bill Callahan and Tom Waits, the music of Cold Specks has maturity beyond its years. And with a voice that evokes the ‘spirit’ of Mahalia Jackson and the visceral tones of Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Cold Specks’ sparse arrangements and chain-gang rhythms will stop you dead in your tracks.
