APPARAT

US SHOW DATES ANNOUNCED AROUND SXSW

03/09/12 – San Francisco – 1015 Folsom/103 Harriet

03/12/12 – Los Angeles – El Rey Theatre

NEW SINGLE – “CANDIL DE LA CALLE” – OUT MARCH 13th

The Devil’s Walk named ELECTRONIC ALBUM OF 2011 by iTunes

“Apparat has become adept at taking the strongest elements of electronic music and transforming them into a human sound that captivates listeners on multiple levels — the most important of which is emotional. That combination helps make The Devil’s Walk one of 2011’s most moving and inspired records.” – NPR

“A compelling mix of programming virtuosity, songcraft, and plaintive vocals, with spastic blips fluttering amid languid string washes, while a
mechanical scrim obscures and accentuates the underlying emotions. 8/10  – SPIN

“Ring shows off formidable production skill, wrapping his whispery vocals in some straight-up gorgeous arrangements. Synths swell up and retreat, drums skitter in and out frame — there’s a lot of motion but it’s got grace and purpose.” – PITCHFORK

Apparat announce two new show dates in March prior to heading to Austin for SXSW. Apparat brings the full band to San Francisco on March 9th at 1015 Folsom/103 Harriet and Los Angeles on March 12th at El Rey Theatre. In addition to other SXSW shows, Apparat is confirmed to play the Sennheiser & Paste party on Wednesday, March 14th. Further shows and details surrounding SXSW will be announced soon. See the full schedule below or visit Apparat.net for more information.  Tickets on sale now.

In addition to the two US dates, Apparat returns to Mexico, where the record was conceived for two shows on March 7th in Mexico City and March 8th in Guadalajara.  For a behind the scenes peak of The Devil’s Walk in Mexico check out the The Making Of The Devil’s Walk video.

The new single, “Candil De la Calle” out March 13th comes packaged with a dub remix by Sascha himself, a remix by Austrian Fennesz, who has recently remixed Oneohtrix Point Never, Nine Inch Nails and The Visitor, and a “Black Water” reworking by Hamburg’s DJ Koze aka Stefan Kozalla, a Kompakt recording artist whose previous remix credits include Caribou, Battles, Matthew Dear and Bob Sinclair. With “Candil De La Calle” Apparat enters a terrain of sparse dub rhythm, elegant strings and floating vocals; “Long have I waited here for nothing to come, a sequence of twisted turns that can’t be undone.” Though the lyrics are somber the song’s Spanish title (which is reflective of time spent in Sayulita Mexico where much of the album was written,) is suggestive of light, or more explicitly a candle in a dark street.

Those with any level of interest in contemporary electronic music will recognize Berlin based Sascha Ring and his alias Apparat as one of the most prominent forces within the field.  In addition to his three critically acclaimed albums, fans will also recognize Sascha’s work with Ellen Allien in which they formed the collaborative electro supergroup Moderat (half Modeselektor, half Apparat). With The Devil’s Walk, the fourth studio album from Apparat, Sascha once again raises his game.
