Krieg und Frieden (Music for Theatre) – European tour announced

EUROPEAN TOUR inc

BRIGHTON FESTIVAL – 13 MAY

LONDON ASSEMBLY ROOMS – 5 JULY

PRIMAVERA SOUND, BARCELONA – 25 MAY

Apparat has announced details of the Krieg und Frieden European tour in spring / summer 2013. The tour starts in Poland on 10 May and includes Brighton Festival, Primavera Sound, Islington Assembly Rooms, London and Berlin’s Haus der Berliner Festspiele.

In February 2013, Sascha Ring aka Apparat released his latest album Krieg und Frieden (Music for Theatre), like the predecessor The Devil’s Walk, on Mute.

The music evolved from Sascha’s collaboration with Sebastian Hartmann for his eponymous stage play based on Leo Tolstoy’s epos “War and Peace”. The play premiered at the prestigious German theatre festival Ruhrfestspiele in Recklinghausen before it performed at Schauspielhaus Leipzig and was recently nominated for “Best Theatre Productions 2012” at the famous theatre festival Berliner Theatertreffen 2013.

See Sascha Ring discussing the Krieg und Frieden project below:

In the summer of 2012 Apparat and fellow musicians Christopher “Mackie“ Hamann and Philipp Thimm worked at a studio in Berlin, re-recording the original music for the theatre play for an album release. Now they are taking the album to the stage all across Europe, starting in May. The musical cast was recruited from the studio musicians with the addition of Nackt, who already coproduced The Devil’s Walk. (All musicians were already part of the broader Apparat live band before) and the venues have all been chosen to reflect the dreamy music of the album.

Visually, the music will be accompanied by frequent collaborators, Berlin based artist group Transforma. Working live on stage with prepared objects, light and cameras they produce a dense visual stream. Inspired by themes of Tolstoy’s War and Peace Transforma create a slowly evolving, multilayered battlefield as a visual counterpart to the music. Transforma are Luke Bennett, Baris Hasselbach, Simon Krahl. They have shown their work at festivals and exhibitions worldwide. www.transforma.de
