Ben Frost
Renowned Iceland-based Australian composer Ben Frost released his sixth studio album, Scope Neglect, in 2024, an experimental, genre-shifting album forged from Frost’s admiration for metal with the mindful removal of its conventional attributes. The album was created with guitarist Greg Kubacki (from New York’s progressive metal band Car Bomb) and bassist Liam Andrews (from Melbourne band MY DISCO).
This latest album adds to the list of acclaimed releases on the label, 2014’s A U R O R A was an Album of the Year in Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, Crack, FACT and Clash, and 2017’s The Centre Cannot Hold was one of Pitchfork’s Top 20 Experimental Albums of the year.
Frost is known for his groundbreaking contributions to composition, production, sound art, and direction over the past 15 years. These include soundtracks for film and TV – ‘Fortitude’, ‘Raised By Wolves’ and Netflix shows ‘Dark’ and ‘1899’ – as well as opera creations including ‘The Wasp Factory’ and ‘The Murder of Halit Yozgat’ (which was performed at London’s Royal Opera House and Hannover’s Staatsoper).
Ben Frost’s recent exhibition ‘Broken Spectre,’ a collaboration with Richard Mosse, was shown at London’s 180 Studios, Melbourne’s National Gallery of Victoria, SFMOMA, Photo Elysée, The Momentary Museum in Bentonville, Arkansas in 2023, and the Jack Shainman Gallery in NY. Other installations include his solo work ‘A Predatory Chord’ which Frost presented in Athens, and ‘Among The Petals’ for The Momentary Museum.
