Yeasayer

Live on Jimmy Fallon and New Stage Design Pictures

Yeasayer’s third album, the acclaimed Fragrant World, is out now on Mute. The band marked the occasion with a live performance of their current single ‘Longevity’ on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon yesterday, giving us the first glimpse of their striking new stage set design.

Having played two phenomenal sold out fan shows at the Lexington in London last month, Yeasayer will return to UK soil for a string of dates in September. The shows will bring Yeasayer’s new light and stage show that was constructed in collaboration with The Creator’s Project. Researched and constructed over the last few months, Yeasayer’s new stage design is built of mirrored structures (some 9 feet tall) that serve to reflect and redirect light, receive projections, or glow from the seams like a living organism. The whole effect is alien looking and fitting right in with Yeasayer’s otherworldly sounds. A highly ambitious project, it continues to show Yeasayer’s dedication to elevate the fans’ live experience and expands their aesthetic to beyond just playing their songs live. Chris Keating talks about the project here.

Fragrant World is testament to the unique identity Yeasayer have carved out for themselves in the music community. They have managed to grow and expand into what they are now without losing touch with what made them so compelling in the first place; their willingness to pull from every musical source imaginable. Couched in healthy fear, yet unafraid to move forward and expand, pulling in new influences just as frequently as new worries, Yeasayer have created a dense and beautiful record. It is as much a synthesis of the last three decades of pop music as it is a way of dealing with the oddities of life.
