This past September Moby hosted a series of three groundbreaking shows at the historical Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles supporting the release of his 11th record Innocents. Scanning the wealth of songs created throughout his career Moby performed for over three hours and on March 4th will release a DVD that captures the energy and spirit of these events. Featuring “Almost Home”, “The Perfect Life,” alongside hits such as “Porcelain” and “Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad” the live DVD and digital download embrace the energy of these expressive performances.

“Almost Home” is the backbone of Moby’s critically acclaimed Innocents. The theme of “home” means so much and so many different things to everyone and Moby was so motivated by this idea that he partnering up with Genero TV, opening up the song to interpretation. The winning selection focuses on the journey of two astronauts who are lost after an accident in space trying to make their way home. Directed Mr. Duck watch the heartfelt winning video here.

Moby recently released an EP of remixes for “Almost Home” inspired by Damien Jurado’s haunting transformation of the track Moby wanted to expand further, inviting some of his closest friends to experiment and create their own versions. Delighted by the results he wanted to go even further and has invited his fans to give it a go: “will you do a cover of ‘almost home’?  because i’d love to hear what you do with it. and if you are able to sell it you can keep the record sale royalties, and i’ll take my share of the publishing and give it to the humane society.  to keep me honest and, hopefully, un-mercenary. please feel free to cover it however you want.  and record however you want: in a studio with an orchestra, on your iphone, on an old cassette, etc.  and if you just want to cover it and put it on youtube or somewhere that’s cool, too.” Check out cover videos and streams of “Almost Home” here.

The story of “Almost Home” really began as Moby was riding around town listening to “Morning Becomes Eclectic” on local radio station KCRW, and he heard a Damien Jurado song come on the air—and the rest is history. “Originally, ‘Almost Home’ was a fully finished song,” recalls Moby. “But I love Damien’s approach to melody and lyrics so I gave it to him as an instrumental. What he did was much better than anything I’d come up with.”recalls Moby. It’s with that spirit that Moby has decided to team up with Beatport-allowing fans to remix “Almost Home” before it’s release on the 11th.  The winning remix will officially be released on Moby’s own label, Little Idiot. For additional Play contest prizing and information visit HERE. The winning remix will be announced on April 11th.

Since Moby moved to Los Angeles from New York in 2011 he has become fascinated by Hollywood Hills’ hidden history, obsession with cults and the passion and extremes pursued for personal reinvention. His latest photography exhibition Innocents includes lush large-scaled photographs depicting ominous landscapes as well as individuals and groups. The series was shot over the last two years around Hollywood coinciding with the creation of Moby’s latest record, Innocents. Tomorrow, February 21st Innocents will open to the public and continue through March 30th at Project Gallery located at 1553 N Cahuenga Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90028. Innocents is Moby’s first exhibit since Destroyed also coinciding with his 2011 album release.

Praise for Innocents:

“Moby’s true talent is gospel that doesn’t announce itself as such. He makes spiritual music about being in spiritual crisis. Here it’s the blues, largely without blues chords.”

“Fantastic…Moby is the Woody Allen of musicians”

-FILTER

“This might be the best Moby album ever”

-NPR
