Announces Details Of A New Ep ‘Steal Away’

OUT ON MUTE ON 5 NOVEMBER 2021

LISTEN TO THE FIRST TRACK, BROKEN MOMENTS

HIS FORTHCOMING MEMOIR

UP ABOVE THE CITY, DOWN BENEATH THE STARS

PUBLISHED ON 30th SEPTEMBER BY OMNIBUS PRESS

BARRY ADAMSON has announced details of a new EP, Steal Away, set for release via Mute on 5 November 2021

The EP launches with the first new Barry Adamson music to be released since 2018’s anthology Memento Mori. Listen to ‘Broken Moments’ here:

Written and recorded at the time when Adamson was writing his memoir Up Above the City, Down Beneath the Stars – due to be published on 30 September via Omnibus Press – the EP became an intrinsic part of the book writing process. He explains, “The book is the past, the record is the past present. I needed to write it to get through the book, to stay present.”

The memoir is a powerful story written in Adamson’s distinct cinematic-noir style, taking the reader through a series of harrowing, tragic, funny and often life-affirming tales, with music always at its core and, as Adamson explains, the EP is “a further exploration of myself, the man outside, taking country jazz and blues idioms as the language.”

Written and recorded by Adamson, at the Murkyworld / Jupiter studios in London and Brighton, Let’s Steal Away’s artwork is by Mark Reynolds, chosen, Adamson explains, because “his lighthearted sixties pop feel perfectly offsets the trouble brewing underneath in the songs.”

Adamson will embark on a series of book readings and signings throughout autumn, starting with the Walthamstow Rock n Roll Book Club on 30 September, where he’ll be in conversation with writer Andrew Male – full details below.

Barry Adamson is a musician, composer, writer, photographer, actor and filmmaker who has been creating all of his life. Brought up in Manchester’s Moss Side, Adamson learnt to play the bass overnight for Magazine, Manchester’s most influential band of that era. When they disbanded, his singular style was spotted by b and his solo career began after a three-year stint with Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. Alongside solo albums, that include the Mercury Music Prize shortlisted album, Soul Murder, he has worked on soundtracks with some of the most intriguing and important directors, including Derek Jarman (The Last of England, 1987), David Lynch (The Lost Highway, 1997), Oliver Stone (Natural Born Killers, 1994) and Danny Boyle (The Beach, 2000).
