Daniel Blumberg

Performs on Later… with Jools Holland

“a modern masterpiece” – 5/5 The Times

“Minus is a statement of intent from an artist who has found his voice” – The Quietus

Daniel Blumberg appeared on Later… with Jools Holland last night, with violinist Billy Steiger and double bassist Tom Wheatley, performing ‘The Bomb’. Giving an incredibly stark and intense performance he pulled viewers deep into the nuanced reaches of the human soul and gave the wider public its first glimpse of one of Britain’s most unique contemporary voices.

Daniel Blumberg’s album Minus, out now on Mute, is an astonishing work, wedding an exploratory, free-music ethos to the rawest emotional songwriting. It was Rough Trade Shops’ Album of the Month and has received incredible reviews across the board.

“Minus is astonishing… Both stunning and original” – 4/5 Q

“Introspective explosion… recalls Talk Talk’s Laughing Stock and Neil Young’s ‘Ditch Trilogy'” 8/10 Uncut

“the outpourings of a unique mind…” 8/10 Loud & Quiet

“An object of rare beauty and sophistication” 4/5 DIY

“Minus feels alarmingly close to the album Blumberg was always supposed to write.” 8/10 Clash

Live, the material is radically reimagined from show to show, with a rotating cast of players pushing his song forms to their limits.  New dates, just announced, include London’s Kings Place in October, following a performance at Café OTO in July – full details below.

Blumberg is a prolific visual artist, described by Hans Ulrich Obrist as “one of London’s most exciting emerging new artists”. A new monograph of his drawings, the first in a series from Rough Trade Books, is available from the end of June.
